Preparing for Your Trip
Before we embark on a thrilling 48 hours in Singapore, let’s cover the essentials from when to go, budgeting effectively, where to stay, and navigating the city’s transport system.
Tips for First-Time Visitors to Singapore
Singapore captivates with its blend of culture, cuisine, and contemporary sights.
You’ll need to ensure your passports have at least six months validity upon entering, and check if a visa is necessary.
English is widely spoken, so communication is a breeze.
Also, Singapore has strict laws, including a ban on chewing gum, so you must familiarize yourselves with local regulations to avoid fines.
Budget-Savvy Singapore
To experience Singapore on a budget, we have to know where to look.
Delicious hawker food centers offer meals without a hefty price tag.
For attractions, many of Singapore’s parks and temples are free to enjoy.
Keep in mind that alcohol can be expensive, so consider limiting or skipping it to save a few dollars.
Best Time to Visit Singapore
Singapore’s tropical climate means it’s warm and humid year-round, but the best time to visit Singapore is during the “dry season” from February to April.
Either way, pack a rain jacket and/or umbrella!
One day, as we were leaving Gardens by the Bay, it started to rain…and rain…and rain. The day before, there had not been a drop of rain (extreme humidity but no rain).
Would you believe that, after the torrential afternoon rain, the sky cleared up in time to head back to the Supertree Grove for the evening light show?!? Woot!
You never know how long the weather patterns are going to last at the equator! Share on XThe busiest periods coincide with public holidays and the Formula 1 race, so plan accordingly if you want to avoid crowds or indulge in the city’s festive atmosphere.
Where to Stay in Singapore
Accommodation options are abundant but for convenience and access to attractions, staying within the Central Area or Marina Bay is ideal.
Here, you’ll find a range of lodging from luxury hotels to more affordable hostels.
It’s true that your lodging in Singapore might just be your semi-budget splurge. It’s not cheap, y’all!
Since we needed family lodging, we were happy to find Bliss Hotel Singapore.
For a more bohemian vibe, Tiong Bahru offers a historic charm and is still easily accessible to the city center.
