Gluten-Free Bakery & Takeaway
Overview
From Tiann’s website:
“REAL GOOD FOOD everything gluten free everything lower sugar”
-and-
“Hand crafted from scratch with real ingredients”
This was a great find for breakfast on our 2nd full day in Singapore. We were traveling with another family, and a couple of them are gluten-intolerant. They had an app that was able to find gluten-free restaurant options all over the world. Tiann’s Bakery popped up as a gluten-free breakfast option, so we gave it a go!
As soon as we walked in, the staff was like family. They answered any questions we had, talked with us, and made us feel welcome.
There was ample seating for our group of 8 in this bakery/coffee shop/cafe.
Location
Tiann’s Bakery is definitely off the beaten path in Singapore. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It gave us a chance to see some residential & non-tourist areas of the city-state. It also allowed us to work up an appetite by the time we arrived at Tiann’s!
Tiann’s Bakery is approximately 10-15 minutes on foot from the Tiong Bahru MRT station.
Food
The food was why we came here! We were looking for gluten-free, and we found that and more! The food was amazing! We tried the Paleo bread with butter and housemade jam. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I also had to have a slice of the matcha cake. I’ve grown to love matcha green tea and things that are made with it (matcha ice cream, matcha latte, etc.). Tiann’s matcha cake was like the best pound cake you’ve ever had (and this was gluten-free!) with the prominent taste of matcha. We rounded out our breakfast with the housemade oat-free granola, with fruit & Greek yogurt. Seriously, who knew eating gluten-free could be so satisfying?!?!? Tiann’s Bakery just knows how to do it right!
Clientele
I would imagine that a lot of locals frequent Tiann’s, especially those looking to eat gluten-free. There were only a few other patrons when we were there (mid-morning), and they didn’t seem to be tourists (like we were). I would, however, encourage tourists to seek out Tiann’s. It is well worth it…from the food to the change of Singapore scenery.
My Favorite Part
The Paleo bread with butter & housemade jam stood out to me. I’ve tried a lot of low-carb breads over the years, and most of them fall short of even being edible. Tiann’s Paleo bread was like eating “regular” whole wheat bread (but tasted even better!), and the housemade jam was the proverbial icing on the cake.
My Least Favorite Part
If I had to choose, the distance from the MRT would be a small minus. As I mentioned before, however, the walk gave us a chance to see a part of Singapore that most tourists don’t see…especially if you’re there for just a couple days.
