There was this one and only time that I went to Minnesota in the winter time…February, to be exact. Prior to this trip, I had been fortunate to fly to places all over the world. I, however, had never landed in snowy weather. Like, never. This was a first.
No trip to Minnesota is complete, without a visit to Fleet Farm (or rather, Fleet Faaahhhrm).
Besides landing in snow for the first time, there was to be another first on this trip…snowmobiling. And not just any snowmobiling…snowmobiling on a frozen lake. In fact, I had been to this lake (north of Brainerd) many times before. I learned to water ski on this lake. Well, by “learned” I really mean “attempted.” I ditched the water skis and was a champ at being pulled on an inner tube. But, I digress. There was no water skiing happening this time…either learning or attempting. Snowmobiling on a frozen lake was on the schedule this time.
Time to gear up! This was all borrowed gear, naturally. I lived in Arizona at the time and definitely did not own any snow gear!
Would you believe this snowmobile had heaters built into the handlebar? I know, I know…I had no idea about these cold weather things. My hands got so hot that I had to turn the warmers off!
As I had never been snowmobiling on a frozen lake before, I had never seen an ice house/fish house!
This was more like an ice mansion! It even had a ladder inside that led up to a loft area.
I seriously couldn’t believe that I had been swimming in this lake before! It was unreal!
Snowmobiling was right up my alley! I loved it! It was something I could actually do and enjoy, as opposed to the aforementioned water skiing. I would definitely recommend adding “snowmobiling on a frozen lake” to your bucket list!
To top off the day, the sky was painted with a beautiful sunset.
