Travel is a must for my family. We so enjoy exploring new locales together and finding hidden gems in places we’ve been to a million times. Much of our travel in recent years has been in the form of road trips. Last year, however, we had the opportunity to travel to southeast Asia! I don’t know of any road that could’ve gotten us there! What I did know is that there might not be familiar stores and products available if I forgot to pack something. This is why we make a run to Target before each and every trip (especially international trips)…so we can stock up on all our travel essentials!
Because I don’t know exactly what products will be available overseas, my packing list has evolved into the most detailed packing list known to mankind! Pre-trip, I also armed myself with information…about the countries we’d visit, where we’d stay, what we’d do, and especially how we’d maintain digestive health. I’ve developed many international travel tips after visiting 20+ countries, and here are some of the biggies.
Travel Day
I clocked it. From our home in California to our hotel in Singapore, it took 28 hours and 14 minutes! Inevitably, most of that time was spent sitting down…on the shuttle to the airport, waiting at various airports, and the airplane travel itself (one, just one, of our flights was over 13 hours). So, I definitely needed to follow these international travel tips!
Water(ing)
After clearing airport security, buy a bottle of water and start drinking it. We all know that airplane travel tends to parch us like the desert. So, water yourself! Make a valiant attempt to avoid other types of drinks. Whenever the flight attendants offer water, take it! They usually come around with just water at some point. Again, take it and drink it!
Moving
How to move around on a jumbo jet. This could probably be a graduate thesis topic! I’ll try to make it simple. When the flight attendants aren’t serving drinks or a meal or otherwise need the aisle(s) clear, try to take a walk. On longer flights, especially overnight ones, you might want to (attempt) sleep. Totally understandable. In that case, take a walk before sleepy time and right after you wake up. On some international flights, special exercises are presented to keep your blood flowing, since you’re usually sitting for long periods of time. As silly as they might seem, do the exercises! All these things keep your body moving.
Eating
When I travel, I want to do all the things, see all the things, and eat. all. the. things. However, especially at the beginning of a trip, try (I know, I know, but try) to eat light. Eating a bunch of heavy foods on a 13 hour flight where you’re sitting a lot is no bueno. Know what’s right for your body. And then…drink some more water!
Exploring the Destination
Upon arrival at your destination, a lot has happened. Lots of travel, a new country, a new climate, new lodging, new food, new bathrooms (ha!). By the time we made it to Singapore, I had been planning our trip for over a year. My emotions were big and bigger. Excitement, unbelief, and everything in between! But hey, we were in Singapore! I felt great! And after a couple days, even though I was feeling great, I realized that #2 wasn’t happening!
Back to the drawing board on the international travel tips? Nope. You know what? The tips are really similar to those on the travel day, just adjusted a bit! And here’s a sneak peek of one additional tip…
Oh, Target, my Target! When we make our pre-travel trip to Target, MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax® are on the list. (Well, who am I kidding? We make multiple pre-travel trips to Target!) That “most detailed packing list known to mankind” that I mentioned earlier? Yeah, MiraLAX® is on it.
Water(ing)
Singapore is ever so close to the equator, which means it’s ever so hot and ever so humid. Drinking water becomes like second nature with all the sweating that’s going on. As unreal as it seems, though, I still needed to drink more water. Replenishing all that water loss is serious business. To help me in that endeavor, I used flavored drink mix packets to give the water some pizzazz. Also, make sure to drink water that is safe. Purchasing sealed bottled water will usually do the trick.
Moving
If at all possible, save the bus and boat and train rides/tours for later in the trip. Right now, you need to be walking. Walk, walk, walk. It’ll get your body moving, and it’s a great way to get to know a new (or treasured) city.
Eating
One of my main food international travel tips is to eat yogurt for breakfast. There’s something about locally produced yogurt that can help your bodily systems get in the right frame of mind! Singapore offered us a large variety of noodles and rice and bread, and it was all delicious. Try to balance it out with fruits and veggies and again, yogurt.
MiraLAX®
I mentioned my little #2 issue above. So, after minding my water(ing), moving, and eating, for gentle, effective relief from occasional constipation, MiraLAX® is an important part of my packing list and international travel tips.
Before heading to Target for our pre-trip essentials, I used the Target app on my iPhone to look up the MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax.
It told me exactly which aisle carried the product and whether or not it was currently in stock! So helpful!
When I arrived at Target and headed straight to Aisle A21, it was a matter of seconds before I found the MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax on the shelf! Target app for the win!
Since it’s unflavored, sugar free, dissolves into any beverage, and comes in easy-to-pack travel pax, MiraLAX® is easy to take and easy on your body. Of course, as with anything, use as directed. MiraLAX® works with the water in your body (that you should be drinking a lot of!) to hydrate, soften, and ease, unblocking your system naturally.
The MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax take virtually no space in your carry-on and/or checked bag, so they’re available whenever and wherever you need it. Find your nearest Target here.
You’re all set for your next trip with these international travel tips for water(ing), moving, eating, and MiraLAX®!
