Etretat Village and Cliffs

Where is Étretat, France?

Etretat, France, is a small town located in the region of Normandy, on the English Channel (La Manche) on the northern coast of France. This beautiful town is about 200 kilometers from Paris and a little more than an hour’s drive from Rouen.

Where are the cliffs at Etretat?

The cliffs at Etretat can be found along the coastline of Normandy, in an 80-mile section called the Côte d’Albâtre, or Alabaster Coast.

Two of the arches are visible from Etretat Beach (Plage d’Étretat), or from the top of the cliffs. The third arch is not visible from town, but it’s worth a visit to fully appreciate this landscape. It’s located southwest from the beach – if you walk westward on the coastal trail, you’ll find it!

In his novel, L’Aiguille Creuse (The Hollow Needle), Detective Lupin found treasure in the supposedly hollow needle, and the rest is history!
