Best GoPro for Kids

I’ve found that our kids remember so much more about trips and vacations, because of all the photos and videos that are so accessible. Now, they also want to start taking “pics and vids” of their own, with their own electronic devices. It’s time to search out the best GoPro for kids!

HI THERE! DON’T FORGET TO PIN THIS FOR LATER!

Best GoPro for Kids

Best GoPro for Kids

A GoPro is a type of action camera that is typically very small and compact. It’s the perfect size for kids to use, since it can be mounted in various ways without taking up much space. There are tons of different options when looking at price points so you’re sure to find one within your budget!

Our recommendation for the best GoPro for kids is: GoPro Hero9 Black

The best option is the GoPro Hero9 Black, which is the newest model of GoPros. It’s a little different from previous models because it has an LCD screen on the back that shows what you’re recording in real time. This makes taking photos and videos much easier for kids!

While the GoPro Hero9 Black is a top-of-the-line action camera, it really has all the features that you’d ever want in one compact device.

Best GoPro for Kids:

GoPro Hero9 Black

FEATURES:

  • New front display
  • Detachable lens
  • Waterproof (to 33 ft)
  • 5K video
  • 20MP photos

The GoPro Hero9 Black is more than a new camera, it’s your perfect accompanying travel buddy. It comes with the highest quality wide-angle lens for capturing photos and videos that literally stretch across your entire scene in stunning detail. Whether you’re trekking through Africa or exploring Australia’s remote beaches, this Go Pro could sure come in handy!

Your favorite adventures will seem more epic when captured in 5K video (!), 1080p colors, or 20 megapixel photo quality (14.7MP frame grabs in video!). Get ready to share all of those wild moments like never before with this small lightweight camera that fits on your head strap (sold separately)!

Engineered to withstand the inevitable bumps of childhood (the product is waterproof up to 33 feet), this action camera is perfect for every occasion: bike rides around the neighborhood, camping trips with friends in an RV or tent — you name it. It snaps into place on any outdoor adventure like Hercules with its hooks that tuck away when not mounted so your child can use his or her hands while still capturing selfies.

If you’re looking to save a little money, you might want to go with one of the less expensive options that still have some great features for kids!

The GoPro Hero8 Black is still one of the best GoPro models and provides a fantastic way for your kids to record their favorite memorable moments on your travels.

GoPro Hero8 Black

FEATURES:

  • Lower price point
  • 4K video
  • 12MP photos

GoPro has some older models that are still quite easy to use and are great for kids who are interested in trying out some of the camera features!

The GoPro Hero7 Black (as with the previously released GoPro Hero5 Black) is less than $299, and it still has many of the features available on the more expensive models.

Best Action Camera Alternatives

While GoPro does offer the best products when it comes to action cameras, there are some good alternative action cameras as well.

ALL of the following options are UNDER $100! Given the super affordable price point, you’ll be able to find a good choice even for young kids who are just learning how to handle electronic devices.

AKASO Brave

A good action camera for young kids is the AKASO Brave, which is an inexpensive option that still shoots great quality video. This camera is very easy to use so even if your child isn’t tech savvy or old enough for a more complicated device, they’ll be able to figure out how this one works.

AKASO Brave

AKASO EK7000

Another popular action camera for kids is the AKASO EK7000. This camera is very easy to use and is another good option at an even lower price point! This camera can capture high quality video, but it’s also a good option if you’re looking for something that won’t break the bank.

Another great choice for younger kids is the Dragon Touch action camera. For such a versatile action camera, it has quite a reasonable price.

The best GoPro (or GoPro alternative) for your children will depend on the child and what they need, but these options can give you some good ideas of where to start!

Best Features

If price is the first thing you consider when searching for the best GoPro for kids, then looking at the features is probably next on your list.

Waterproof Case (or Waterproof Housing)

The GoPro Hero is waterproof, which means you can take it in the water to actually record videos and photos. However, not all GoPros are waterproof (the older models) so be sure that your model has a protective case! A basic one will do but if you’re willing to spend more money there are different options for “underwater usage.”

This is a little more expensive, but it’s worth it because you can take your GoPro to very deep water depths. If your child wants to go snorkeling or scuba diving with their own camera, this protective case will be key!

Battery Life

Another important factor to consider is the battery life. Some GoPros are better with this than others, but you want to be sure that your child will have enough juice in their GoPro if they’re going on a long trip or one where there won’t be access to charging!

In many cases, kids will be using their cameras for long periods of time. You’ll want to make sure they have the appropriate rechargeable battery pack with them so that they don’t run out of power or get frustrated when it’s not working correctly.

If your GoPro, or other action camera, doesn’t come with a rechargeable battery, you may want to consider purchasing rechargeable batteries yourself. One of the best ways to ensure your kid has a good time with their camera is by having plenty of rechargeable batteries, so they can keep filming and exploring without constantly running out.

Voice Commands

The Hero9 is also has a voice control feature, which is not available on all GoPro models. This means that the camera will start recording when it hears your child say “GoPro,…” There’s even an option for taking selfies!

Video Quality

Gone are the days where video recording requires a separate video camera. Now, you can record videos, even 30fps videos, using just your action camera in video mode.

The option of shooting in 1080p HD is fairly standard these days. This is a great feature for kids who want to take high-quality videos and photos with their GoPro! The quality comes at an expense though: it takes up more space on your memory card, which you’ll most likely need to purchase separately.

You’ll want to be able to record videos at a frame rate of 30 fps, which is the minimum for capturing smooth and fluid videos.

Image Quality

The Hero9 digital camera shoots in 20 megapixels, which is a good option for those looking to take high-quality photos.

The ideal camera will also have electronic image stabilization, which will help reduce the shakiness while recording videos. In addition, a great camera will feature digital zoom, a wide-angle lens, photo effects, and low light photography.

Noise Reduction

This is an important feature if your child wants to take videos of the sound around them, like in a concert or sporting event. It gives you more control over what’s picked up by the camera and reduces all background noise so that it captures only what’s being said or going on right then!

Slow Motion / Time Lapse

The HERO9 Black captures up to 240 frames per second for 8x slo-mo!

GoPro’s Hero9 also features TimeWarp 3.0, for time-lapse videos.

A time-lapse photo is when you take a photo every few seconds and then play them back in sequence to create the illusion of time moving more quickly. This can be done automatically on some models or your child can set it up themselves by taking photos at intervals over an extended period of time. Kids will love this feature!

Memory Card

You’ll need a memory card for storing and transferring videos, photos, and files from your GoPro. Be sure to purchase one that matches the size of the camera you’re buying! Look for the latest micro SD card.

Remote Control

While a remote control might be a cool feature, it might not be best for kids especially, as it can tend to get lost easily.

LCD Screen

This is a great feature to have if your child wants to be able to see what they’re recording in real-time or review the footage they’ve already taken. It’s not essential, but it will help kids get more comfortable with using their GoPro and learn how best to use its features! An LCD touch screen also offers easy connectivity.

GoPro Accessories

There are many accessories to consider when looking for a GoPro that’s ideal for kids. This could be things like an action or handlebar mount so your child can capture footage from their bike, skateboard, etc. You’ll also want to get replacement parts and GoPro mounts, if necessary!

Best GoPro for Kids

If you’re looking for a way to make your kids feel more comfortable with the idea of taking pictures or videos, having their own action camera can be an inexpensive and easy solution.

You might consider the latest model for older kids or a previous model (or even older models) for young children.

Here’s a summary of all the items listed above:

There are tons of options when it comes to price points, so no matter what your budget is, there’s sure to be one that works well for you!
